Most of us simply want to share the amazing moments on Instagram. That beautiful sunrise or sunset. That amazing meal. the bread you made during lockdown. I’m the first to put my hand up and say I’m guilty of this too. But recently I’ve been trying to be more vulnerable online.
What do I mean by “be more vulnerable online”?
Simply put, share more about your real life. What you’re struggling with. How you’re overcoming your own challenges.
It’s too easy to simply post all the things that are going well. The things that push us, challenge us and make us better are a hundred times more interesting and inspirational.
At least that’s what I’ve found recently when sharing things from my personal life more online.
Why be more vulnerable online?
I’m trying to give people a better view of who I am, for my personal life and also for my professional work. I’m firmly in the B2B world by running a marketing agency, but whether B2B or B2C, it all comes down to human to human.
I want the people on the other side of any transaction or relationship to be able to see who I am, how I live and what I’m currently doing to improve.
Some of the things I’m sharing more
The fact that I’ve been on a mission to improve my life this year is no secret. From exercising to mental health, reading to sharing more. All of it has been a series of mini challenges to myself.
Some of the most engaging posts I’ve shared recently have been about the books I’m reading, the struggles of trying to get healthy, or my mini challenges to try to start to build habits.
All of it gives people a better understanding as to who I am and what I try to do every day to improve.
As a result of this, I’d highly encourage you to set a simple challenge for yourself. Whatever it might be, make it a #2weekchallenge like I did on Tik Tok, and simply try out something new.
2 weeks will give you a chance to see what you really think and even more importantly, it’s a really short period of time to stick with it.
By the end of the 14 days you’ll know if you:
- Like doing it
- If it’s worth you continuing to do it
Good luck everyone!
