For many years, people have asked me “what I really want out of life?” I’ll be honest, I still struggle to this day to explain what that is. But, I now know what I’m trying to do and more importantly why I want to do it. So how do we figure out what we desire?
For me, this all started in January. I was re-reading the 7 Habits of Highfly Effective People (I highly recommend it) and I decided to write down my personal mission statement. Who I wanted to be and how I wanted to act.
After about 8-9 weeks, I looked back at the mission statement. I was living every single aspect of what I had written down. Subconsciously or consciously, after writing it I had internalised those ideas and had made them a reality.
Last month, I started reading Think and Grow Rich. A book I’ve tried to read twice in the past, and simply hadn’t been able to finish. I’m guessing I wasn’t ready to read it quite yet. But this time, everything started slotting in to place.
If you’ve read it, you’ll know it talks a lot about what is your burning desire. It’s a really hard question to answer for most people, me included. But something clicked. Suddenly I knew what I wanted to do, and as that solidified in my mind, everything else started to fall into place. I could see how to do it, what I needed to focus on and what that looked like once I had completed it.
Simple, I want to positively impact 1,000,000 small businesses over the next 10 years!
It’s a big goal, and I’m excited to do it. Between what we do at Social INK, plus the podcast I host, All About Digital Marketing, we’re making waves and our content is far and wide reaching already. But there’s so much more to do.
During the lockdown period, I found myself working 1-2-1 with dozens of startups, through We Work Labs. Suddenly I found myself coaching startups With their marketing and some general business ideas.
All of these actions have helped to concretise this idea, that clearly was floating around in my sub-conscious. But suddenly having it out there, and at the front of my mind, made it all real. Now I can see where I am going.
Not unlike a GPS for road trips, the mind needs to know the destination before it can start to map out the route to get there. It’s been an exciting few months for me. So many changes and developments that I can’t wait for what the future holds.
Everything I do now on a daily basis is focused on one thing. Helping to make my goal a reality!
