James O’Donnell, Commercial Director at Social INK, and I have always enjoyed a challenge. We’ve done this in the past before we worked together. We’ve done them whilst working together. But we’re always looking to do something that will ultimately help us “up our game” as it were. That’s why we created The Social INK Show.

What is The Social INK Show?

The idea is very simple. James and I jump on a video call to have a chat. It’s an episode inspired in part by Tim Ferriss and Kevin Rose’s the Random Show.

We’ve always loved that show, and we often talked about doing a podcast, with a glass of wine in hand, and simply chatting about a couple of topics. It’s a great way to make content easily and to give some real insight into who you are and what you do.

So we set out to just do it! We recorded the first episode in July 2020. I was in France, James was in London. The premise was to simply talk a little bit about the show. Not overthink it. Simply see where it went.

Creating more content streams

Between this 30-day blogging challenge (check out James O’Donnell’s website for his 30-day blogging challenge too) and podcasting, I create a fair amount of content. But that’s never enough. The more you create, the more you want to create.

So I occasionally vlog, and we both create content for Social INK too, as well as constantly work on content creation for clients.

So why an additional content stream? Well, we wanted to try something different. The plan is to see how we can maximise one long-format piece of content by using it to create multiple shorter format pieces. Repurposing as it’s often referred to.

Why we created the show

Once our long format piece of content was created, we were able to do the following:

  • Transcribe the audio, so as we can break it down to write some blogs
  • Choose our favourite moments and cut shorter clips to be used on social media
  • Make some quote graphics to use to promote the video.

The list goes on, as I had previously talked about in my post about content creation opportunities.

But now, the time has come. Here’s the first episode of The Social INK Show, in full:

What’s next?

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be detailing how we use this to make more content that revolves around this episode.

If you’ve ever thought about creating content, but you don’t know where to get started, we’d love to talk through how you can change things radically, in just 30 days.

At the end of the day, for us, creating content that helps people in some way is at the heart of what we do. For me personally, I’m on a mission to positively influence 1,000,000 small businesses, entrepreneurs, freelancers, consultants and coaches by 2030. That’s why we created The Social INK Show.

At Social INK, we even give all startups, entrepreneurs and small businesses a free initial consultation – no strings attached, to talk about their digital marketing plans and next steps. You can book your free digital marketing consultation here.

Have you ever created longer format content to be repurposed? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to check it out.
